Too often funders lament that we don’t get applications from ‘hard to reach’ groups – that we’d like to fund more work led by marginalized and oppressed communities, but the applications don’t come in.

With their recent Community Action funding stream, the Civic Power Fund takes an approach to grantmaking that more than challenges this perspective. With a philosophy that 'you find the work by funding it’ they have taken an approach that is both open and proactive in its outreach, highly supportive and in contrast to what can often feel like an extractive experience – aims to ensure that applicants benefit from the process - even if they don’t get funding.
