Community-Led Housing - Exploring the Possibilities and Potential

A joint event hosted by ACF’s Housing & Homelessness Network, Community Land Trust Network, UK Cohousing Network, and Nationwide Foundation.

This half-day event brings together funders, investors and sector leaders to explore the potential of community-led housing for social impact, placemaking and social investment - and what it will take to grow the movement and help more communities secure property for long-term local benefit.

About the event

Major investment is already reshaping housing, regeneration and local development. With initiatives like the New Towns Taskforce and the £39bn affordable homes programme underway, the question is whether communities will have the power, resources and ownership to shape what comes next, bring homes and assets into use, and share in the long-term value created.

Why this matters

Community-led approaches can build local resilience, wealth and wellbeing, strengthen local voice and ownership, and make investment go further. Ambition is growing, with the government backing the sector’s long-term strategy. However, turning that ambition into lasting change and genuine impact will require funders, investors, government, VCSE organisations and community leaders to work together in new ways. 

What to expect

The day will be lightly facilitated and highly participatory, combining short presentations, panel discussions and interactive sessions with plenty of space for sharing and mutual learning. We’ll draw on existing ideas, projects, funding approaches and research, while exploring opportunities for future collaboration and action. Funders and investors will have space to explore areas of interest, while community-led housing participants can highlight where investment could add value. This is a space for open exploration and relationship-building, rather than formal pitches or funding asks.
