Summary

Join us to explore what an equitable approach to governance and responsible use of power looks like.

This session is designed for senior leaders and foundation trustees.

We will begin by identifying the unique role and power afforded to grant-makers and ask how it can be used responsibly and intentionally through an equitable approach to governance. Using different typologies of power, we will examine the difference between shifting power and stepping out of responsibility, of centering oneself vs centering the work and learn approaches through which to discern and apply power with intent and integrity.

From there, we will explore a range of governance models that have been used by different types of foundations to redistribute power and identify possibilities for broadening equity through the governance function in the specific context of your organisation.

In this interactive learning session, you will:

  • Learn about current common misconceptions around power and identify what responsible use of power in philanthropy looks like
  • Explore various models for equitable governance that have been used in philanthropy to date
  • Have an opportunity to connect with peers interested in equitable approaches to governance
  • Formulate actionable and pragmatic steps to apply some of these ideas in your context
  • Identify allies and leverage points in your sphere of influence
