Aims and activities

Rural Philanthropy plays a vital role in raising awareness of and addressing the distinctive challenges that rural communities face. These challenges often include limited access to healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic opportunities, which can lead to disparities in development and overall quality of life.

Overall, Rural Philanthropy ensures that rural areas not only receive their fair share of philanthropic support but also grow in ways that are sustainable, equitable, and self-reliant.

This project aims to contribute towards building the field of rural philanthropy in the UK. It seeks to build an evidence base of creative examples of philanthropic investment in rural communities in response to local context, and understand better how to measure its impact. It aims to engage with funders and partners to raise the profile of dedicated rural funding, and also to develop demonstrator models to build our understanding of place-based philanthropic intervention in the countryside.

How to get involved

We would love to hear from any funders who are interested in:

  • Supporting the development of the project, both now and in future
  • Learning more about the project as it develops
  • Contributing to a library of good practice case studies, from national and place-based funders, providing examples to would-be donors of the potential for informed approaches to unlock assets and build potential in rural areas
  • Developing funds that facilitate creative responses to rural needs.

To get involved, contact Nicola Frost at Devon Community Foundation.
