Aims and activities
Continuo Foundation brings together donations from a range of foundations and individuals to provide £200,000 per annum in small project grants (£2,000 - £8,000) to UK period-instrument ensembles. Our specialist knowledge and deep understanding of the community we support allow us to reach smaller arts organisations often excluded from applying to larger funders due to a lack of fundraising expertise. Continuo also helps these freelance musicians launch and develop sustainable careers by enabling performances and touring that would otherwise not take place - bringing live music to communities across the UK, particularly in regions which are under-served in arts and culture at present.
Our panel of music industry experts assesses the artistic merit of the projects proposed in two competitive grant rounds each year. Continuo has a specific category for recently formed ensembles, with more flexible eligibility criteria for emerging artists. We also provide personalised business and publicity support to all our grantees, especially those run by musicians without professional business support. So far, the projects supported have enabled performances in 105 different UK locations. We are keen to work with local and national funders to enable our grantees to bring music to more people in more places.

How to get involved
We would be delighted to discuss potential collaborations and/or provision of funds for re-granting through our small project grants to enable period-instrument ensembles to become more financially sustainable and to engage new audiences through touring to non-traditional venues (churches, town halls, barns, parks, etc.) in communities across the UK.
