Aims and activities
The South East of Scotland Transport Partnership (SEStran) is looking for other funding partners to help support projects funded through our People and Place programme.
The programme funds active travel behaviour change projects across the South East of Scotland, and is supported by funding from the Scottish Government via Transport Scotland. More information about our programme can be found here.
Due to budgetary constraints, we are currently only able to offer annual funding for projects. The decision making processes involved also means funding announcements are usually not possible until after the financial year has already begun.
The main aim of this collaboration is therefore to address these issues by bringing together other funding partners who could help alleviate these issues with longer term funding, or bridging the gap in funding between financial years (particularly for multi-year projects).
In the first two years of the programme it has been significantly over-subscribed during application rounds, meaning it has not been possible to support all worthwhile projects and only partially fund some of the successful applications.
Additional overall funding would help meet the overwhelming demand across the region to deliver impactful projects encouraging more active and sustainable travel.
How to get involved
We would be delighted to speak to any funders who would be keen to help support organisations (particularly lower capacity third sector organisations) to deliver active travel projects through our People and Place programme.
You may already be delivering programmes that align or overlap with some of the outcomes that active travel projects can deliver (increased health, employability, climate change, community engagement, social enterprise, to name a few). Pooling funding/resources could help reduce the burden on groups delivering these projects and allow for a wider network to learn from each other as well.
Discussions around possible in kind support around capacity building, training, or other support for grantees would also be welcome.
