Aims and activities

The Music Investment Model is convening funders to direct, develop and deliver funding to the music and wellbeing sector in the most coordinated way possible.

This Model is a new and innovative approach to bringing public and private investment together to achieve national strategic aims in health and social care, by delivering the Power of Music to communities across the UK.

This approach has emerged as a direct response to the Power of Music report (launched in 2022 by The Utley Foundation and UK Music and backed by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) and builds on the Paul and Nick Harvey Fund (a collaboration between The Utley Foundation and the National Academy for Social Prescribing).

How to get involved

We are very interested in speaking with funders in the music/arts and/or dementia/older people space, as well as strategic funders interested in delivering systems change in health and social care.

The model will fund grassroots community organisations across the UK and undertake impact evaluation on a national scale to support and inform NHS policy and practice. We are looking for other funders to invest and partner in this approach.

To find out more, please contact Sarah Metcalfe at The Utley Foundation.

Who's involved

Who was involved

The fund is being convened by the National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) with the support of The Utley Foundation. NASP sits at the apex of the third sector, government and NHS and is expert in developing evidence to support and inform practice in the NHS around social prescribing. NASP will lead the evaluation of all projects funded through the Music Investment Model to inform and support future NHS commissioning, thus opening potential routes to sustainable funding for funded organisations.

Learning and Resources

This collaboration directly responds to recommendation 4 in the Power of Music report, focused on strategic, impactful and coordinated funding approaches. You can read the report here.
