Summary

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is looking to work with other funders to help transform how the heritage sector engages with children and young people.

Aims and questions

Aims and activities

At this point, we expect the intervention will focus on two core outcomes:

•         Expanding and diversifying participation, ensuring more children and young people (CYP) — particularly those that are underserved — can access meaningful, inclusive heritage opportunities.

•         Strengthening the long-term relevance and resilience of heritage organisations by embedding the skills, knowledge and commitment needed for sustained CYP-focused practice.

We know that many heritage organisations lack the capacity, confidence and resources to sustain high-quality CYP engagement, and that many CYP do not have access to opportunities that meet their needs. The intervention seeks to address these challenges and deliver meaningful work with CYP for the long-term.

How to get involved

We know that our funding can only go so far and are keen to explore if we could collaborate with other funders, particularly those who are targeting outcomes for CYP and/or heritage organisations.

This could be place-based, we are UK-wide and will be looking to invest in all four nations, but new funders may be able to expand the reach of the programme or collaborate with us to focus on specific places.

Or this could be focused on a particular type of heritage (e.g. museums, landscapes and nature, industrial heritage or places of worship) or on specific groups of CYP (e.g. early years, CYP in care or care leavers, young carers, etc).

We are also keen to learn from other people’s experience of funding in this space and are looking to work with a dedicated learning and impact partner(s).

We’d also like to bring together a group of interested funders for a round table (hopefully in September) to consider how our funding works alongside other funders in this space. So please get in touch if you’d like to be part of that discussion.
