We are coming together to commission a research and scoping exercise to inform grantmaking aimed at improving the family courts.

Aims and activities

We are a group of funders who have been funding around domestic abuse and/or the family courts for some time. We have identified a window of opportunity and a certain amount of momentum around the family courts and the opportunity to improve the system for victim/survivors and their children.

We are planning to commission an expert consultant to research and scope the landscape around the family courts, to identify opportunities and levers for change, and to help us identify where we as funders can be most helpful.

We would welcome others joining us in this work.

How to get involved

We would welcome others around the table for the consultancy piece (we are currently splitting the costs equally between 5 funders), and we would also welcome interest in funding in this space following on from the consultant’s recommendations.

Who was involved

So far there are five funders planning to contribute to the consultancy piece. A number of others are interested and may, for example, join as co-funders to support work that comes out of the consultancy. We are considering publishing the outcomes of the consultancy as a helpful resource to others.

Learning and Resources

We have an outline job description/work outline for the consultancy we would be happy to share.
