Aims and activities

In its pilot phase between 2023 – 2025 the Clean Air Fellowships funded 12 fellows to complete the Master’s in Air Pollution Management and Control at the University of Birmingham. This included six students from the UK and six from Eastern Europe whose work has already been influencing government policy, raising awareness and building evidence-based cases to challenge air pollution.

This programme combines academic and sector-essential skills, creating a step-change in analysis and advocacy supporting the most impacted communities worldwide. We aim to invest in clean air leaders who understand the social and cultural dynamics at play in their communities and who can devise and implement innovative solutions to air pollution tailored to their context, and globally.

We are seeking additional partners to continue supporting students from the UK and Eastern Europe and to expand this programme to include students from Africa and India where air pollution challenges are significant, and interest in the field is growing.

How to get involved

Clean Air Fund are inviting funders to join us to create a wave of skilled and talented people in the air quality sector; training leaders in countries that are currently under resourced. In addition, this is a great opportunity to amplify your organisation in supporting this globally visible cohort of Fellows who already attract media attention in air quality and higher education news outlets leading the challenge against air pollution.

An estimated budget per student is set as follows:

  • MSc in Air Pollution Management & Control tuition fee and living costs (approximation based on 2024/25 Academic year, UK)  £30,200 approx.
  • MSc in Air Pollution Management & Control tuition fee and living costs (approximation based on 2024/25 Academic year, International)  £51,000 approx.

Additional costings including programme management and implementation additional.
